WEEE Policy Statement
DOWDING & PLUMMER LTD
Policy Statement by Dowding & Plummer Ltd (the Company) in respect of The Waste Electrical & Electronic Equipment Regulations 2006 (WEEE)
PRODUCER OBLIGATION
As a producer and supplier to the Business to Business market, we are committed to the protection of the environment and therefore the successful implementation of the above regulations.
We are a registered producer of WEEE (producer number WEE/AB0043SY/PRO) and also a member of an approved Compliance scheme operated by Valpak PLC.
We undertake to provide the Compliance scheme manager with accurate and timely declarations in respect of new equipment placed on the market, further, we undertake to provide them with details relating to WEEE sent to Approved Authorised Treatment Facilities (AATF's) on our behalf. We will seek to achieve continuous improvements in both the recording of and accuracy of our WEEE related data.
We are authorised by the Environment Agency (EA) to both carry and store WEEE, (pending recovery elsewhere), we will ensure that all necessary registrations, licences and exemptions are kept up to date with the EA and that arrangements are made for the storage, treatment and environmentally safe disposal of waste equipment in conjunction with our Compliance scheme manager.
All records relating to WEEE will be retained for a minimum period of five years.
Equipment sent to AATF's will be firstly inspected for possible reuse of materials and components, this is aimed at maximising the environmental benefits and achieving the lowest costs of recycling.
It is our policy to offer a like for like, one for one exchange service to customers wishing to purchase a new machine from our Victor branded range. The take back of old equipment in exchange for new extends to Non Victor machinery placed on the market before 13th August 2005. Whilst our Conditions of sale pass all 'end of life' cost obligations to the customer, this clause will be waived until further notice provided the above conditions are met.
Customers wishing to return WEEE should advise the Company at the time of placing their order for new equipment. We reserve the right to make a charge in relation to the disposal of any waste contents subsequently found in WEEE (e.g. Debris, dust, liquid) as these should be removed by the final user prior to handover.
Where necessary, we will arrange for the uplifting of WEEE from customers premises where a like for like machine has been purchased and delivered, the timing of the collection of WEEE may however differ from that of the delivery of the new machine.
A Waste transfer note (WTN) will be issued to businesses returning WEEE to the Company. In the event of multiple returns we may issue a consolidated waste transfer note to cover these.
We will liaise with all authorised Distributors wishing to act as WEEE 'Distribution Centres' to ensure that they understand the need to inform customers of:
- the meaning of the crossed out wheelie bin symbol and the requirement to minimise the disposal of WEEE as unsorted municipal waste
- the need to achieve a high level of collection of WEEE for treatment, recovery and environmentally sound disposal
- the collection and take back system available to them
Further, we will assist authorised Distributors in relation to all other relevant matters including provision of information in respect of transportation, storage and record keeping issues.
We will provide information to customers by various means including Company Website, Product operating instructions, specific WEEE related customer announcements, invoices, Terms and conditions, product labelling and by word of mouth via both our own sales team and our Distributor network.
We will not be responsible for WEEE originally produced by ourselves where our branding has been replaced with alternative branding, or where the WEEE has been converted or modified without our permission.
Where Business users are not replacing WEEE and the WEEE does not bear the crossed out wheelie bin symbol, they are required to meet the costs of collection, treatment and disposal themselves. There is no financial obligation on either ourselves or our Distributors in respect of this. We will however consider arranging these services upon application although this will be chargeable.
A charge will be made where WEEE of our manufacture bearing the crossed out wheelie bin symbol is being returned to ourselves and not replaced. Current prices for this service will be available upon application from our sales department.
