It’s been a busy time here at Victor Floorcare – and as demand for our machines continues to grow across the UK, we’ve been strengthening the team behind the scenes to make sure we continue delivering the level of service our customers expect.

We’re pleased to welcome Rebecca Stewart and Aaron Griffiths to the Victor team, both joining our supply chain and operational support functions.

Over the last 12 months, we’ve seen strong growth across a number of sectors including healthcare, education, logistics and facilities management, alongside several major contract wins. That includes becoming a preferred supplier to Royal Mail and securing a framework agreement with the University of Glasgow.

Managing Director Edward Blackledge says the appointments are all part of making sure the business continues to grow in the right way.

“The last 12 months have been an extremely busy period for Victor Floorcare, with significant growth across a number of sectors and several major contract wins,” he says.

“As demand increases, it is essential that we continue investing behind the scenes to ensure our operational structure grows with the business.”

An important step

Like many manufacturers, the cleaning industry has faced its share of supply chain challenges in recent years – from longer lead times to increased demand and component availability pressures. But at Victor, we’ve always believed that honest communication and strong customer support matter just as much as the machines themselves.

That’s why strengthening the operations side of the business is such an important step forward.

“Our focus is not simply on increasing sales volumes, but on building a stronger, more responsive operation that supports customers properly for the long term,” Edward adds.

Since 1946, Victor Floorcare has manufactured specialist floor cleaning machinery here in the UK, supplying organisations across healthcare, education, retail, logistics and the public sector.

And we’re only just getting started.

 

We are thrilled to announce that Victor Floorcare is relocating from Ace Business Park, Birmingham to Lancaster Court, Lancaster Road, Harlescott Industrial Estate, Shrewsbury, SY1 3LG. This move marks a significant milestone in our company’s journey, allowing us to expand our operations and better serve our ever growing customer base.

 

The new premises will provide us with larger facilities to accommodate additional staff, increased warehousing space, and enhanced production capacity. This expansion is a direct response to the recent increase in demand for our high-quality floorcare products. With more space, we can streamline our production processes, improve efficiency, and continue to innovate in the floorcare industry.

 

Interestingly, Lancaster Road holds a special place in our company’s history. The Victor name was chosen by Les Davies, our former Sales Director and joint Managing Director, inspired by his time flying Lancaster Bombers during World War II. Squadron planes were marked with the code letters VN, followed by the individual aircraft recognition letter. The phonetic call sign to the control tower on take-off and landing was “Victor Nan,” plus the letter of the aircraft. Les survived a full tour unscathed and considered the plane he was usually allocated – VN-F: Victor Nan-Fox – lucky.

 

Les Davies’ story is not just a fascinating piece of history; it embodies the spirit of resilience and innovation that has driven Victor Floorcare since its inception. Established in 1946, Victor Floorcare has built a strong reputation for producing robust, well-designed machinery that is easy to service and delivers high performance. Six Nations Championship: Cleanest Stadium Revealed | Dating back to 1883, the Six Nations Championship is the oldest international rugby union tournament in Europe. With England holding the record for the most overall titles whilst Wales has the Grandest Slams. The Championship is a key highlight in the rugby calendar and known for its electric atmosphere and passionate fan base. 

As the Six Nations Championship approaches, culminating in a head-to-head match between France and Wales at the largest stadium in France, Stade de France, we turn our attention to the cleanliness of these iconic stadiums. 

Victor Floorcare, a leading manufacturer of commercial floorcare equipment, have analysed data to uncover which of the most well-known stadiums internationally, are the cleanest and which may benefit from a deep clean. 

 

Before presenting the results of our research, we conducted a poll on LinkedIn, asking our followers to predict which stadium they thought was the dirtiest. Out of the six stadiums, we selected three for our followers to choose from, including both the dirtiest and cleanest stadiums. Interestingly, the stadium that received the fewest votes for the dirtiest was actually correct. It seems our followers are quite knowledgeable when it comes to Rugby because we can confirm that the Stade de France emerged as the cleanest stadium in the Six Nations.

Methodology:

Our team analysed all the reviews on Google Maps and TripAdvisor for the top six major stadiums in the Six Nations Championship. We focused on reviews containing negative keywords such as ‘filthy’, ‘disgusting’, ‘gross’, ‘dirty’, ‘unhygienic’, and ‘smelly’. This data was compiled to create an index, ranking the stadiums from ‘sparkling & spotless’ to ‘dirty & dingy’. Utilising this data, we worked out a percentage and overall cleanliness score.

Located just north of Paris, Stade de France opened in 1998 and was designed as a multi-functional venue capable of hosting football, rugby, athletics, and concerts. Among the Six Nations stadiums, Stade de France stands out for its exceptional cleanliness. 

Many reviews praise the stadium’s facilities, particularly the cleanliness of its toilets and adequate capacity. One review mentioned, “Great stadium, lots of facilities so no massive queues for the bathrooms, which was nice.” and another visitor who attended during the Rugby World Cup claimed “The stadium design is extraordinary.   • Scrubber Dryer or Mop: After removing debris, use either a scrubber dryer or a mop. While using a mop is cost-effective, it can be laborious and time-consuming. You should also be careful not to leave the floor saturated as this could damage the floor and create a slipping hazard. Consider using a small scrubber dryer, such as the Victor Hyperglide, which resembles an upright vacuum cleaner, or the SD12 Scrubber Dryer, one of the most compact scrubber dryers on the market. Both machines are user-friendly and require basic maintenance. The benefit of using these machines is that they can easily pick up water after application, preventing saturation and reducing the slipping hazard. It also makes floor cleaning quicker and easier.

 

  • Inspect Edges and Corners: Finally, inspect the edges and corners of the floor space where dirt often gathers. Skirting boards are frequently knocked and scuffed in busy environments.  To clean these areas, use a damp cloth. For increased efficiency, consider using a tool such as the Victor Mini Scrubber, which is easily adjustable for a variety of tasks and is the perfect solution for cleaning confined areas.

Cleaning floors is required immediately when items are dropped, causing spillage or breakages. 

 

Glass Smashing 

When glass is smashed, smaller fragments can travel surprisingly far. Immediate action is crucial because you may not only have a wet floor, creating a slip hazard, but also a risk of severe injury if customers are exposed to the glass, especially those wearing open-toe shoes. Such injuries could lead to serious consequences. As the business owner, you could be liable for any claims made against you for negligence, and in some cases, people can claim significant amounts. 

Spillages

However, be careful not to pick up large pieces, as they could damage the vacuum’s internal mechanisms. 

Spillages 

  • Immediate Response: Clean up spills immediately to prevent slip hazards. Use absorbent materials like paper towels or mops. If it’s a large spill, we’d suggest using a machine such as the Victor Hyperglide, this machine is exceptionally straightforward and available in a cordless version & it’s also the size & weight of an upright vacuum so you won’t cause disturbance to customers. 
  • Signage: Place wet floor signs around the area until it is completely dry. 
  • Regular Inspections: Staff should perform regular checks of the floor space to identify and address any spills promptly.

What is Oscillation in Cleaning? | Effectively maintaining floors requires a combination of cleaning methods. This includes regular vacuuming to remove dust and debris, thorough wet cleaning to address stains and grime, and for some floor materials, a final polish to enhance shine and protection. 

The way we maintain floors has changed significantly over the years, particularly with advancements in machines, cleaning solutions, and other tools. Specifically for wet cleaning methods, scrubber dryers are most widely used today, thanks to their efficiency and cost-saving benefits. For example, cleaning a 16 sqm space with a mop and bucket could take around 40 minutes, while using a scrubber dryer can reduce this time to less than 5 minutes.  

There are a wide range of scrubber dryers on the market, including walk-behind, ride-on or step-on. You’ve also got rotary machines that are used for scrubbing, offering the added benefit of being able to buff and polish floors. And most recently we have seen the introduction of Co-Botics, which enable completely autonomous cleaning.

 

Introducing the Ocelot range & what is oscillation?  

Most recently, Victor has introduced the Ocelot range. Different from Scrubber dryers, that function with rotating brushes or pads that loosen the dirt on the floor surface. The Ocelot machines possess intense cleaning capabilities, by agitating the embedded dirt and debris using high frequency, multi directional movement. This movement helps to dislodge stubborn dirt and stains. Specifically offering 3000 rounds of 7mm cleaning action per minute. The quicker revolutions allow operatives to make light work of cleaning floors.

What is the difference between the Ocelot 400 & Ocelot 400 Plus? 

These machines have minimal differences, both offering intense cleaning action and being applied in the same manner. However, the key difference lies in the additional features of the Ocelot 400 Plus, the integrated vacuum and squeegee, which enable wet pick-up.

When it comes to lifting embedded dirt, these machines can perform identically depending on how they are used. The original Ocelot was designed as a low-moisture machine, so wet pick-up isn’t necessary. However, to achieve a higher intensity of cleaning action, you can apply more water. But this won’t match the water application of the Ocelot 400 Plus, as excessive water could potentially damage the floor. Therefore, to match the capabilities of the Ocelot 400 Plus, you’d need a machine that can suction the water after application, such as the wet & dry vacuums WD30 or WD60.

Overall, while these machines are not exceptionally different and both are effective depending on the application required, the Ocelot 400 Plus can achieve a greater depth of cleaning potential.

What are the key benefits of choosing an Ocelot?

Application on textured floor materials is where you will see the most benefit. Some machines may require application in the same area but with one-pass the Ocelot’s can achieve the desired cleanliness.

 

Eco-friendly: Originally designed as low-moisture machines, the Ocelot 400 & Ocelot 400 Plus can be used without any chemicals and provide a satisfactory standard of cleanliness. You can use neutral cleaning solutions if preferred, but it is not an essential requirement. This is not only beneficial to the environment, but also a cost saving.

 

Edge-to-edge cleaning: Often machines can be awkward in tight corners but the rectangular base of the Ocelot machines enables simple and effortless application in the edges and corners of a room.

 

Cordless: Both Ocelot’s are completely cordless and powered using powerful Lithium-ion batteries. The run-time of the machines is 1.5 hours but this does slightly differ for the Ocelot 400 Plus depending on whether you’ll use the vacuum feature as this may provide less cleaning time.

When would you choose an Oscillating machine?

Although scrubber dryers are excellent for regular cleaning, they may not be suitable for every floor type. Some floors require a gentler cleaning method, while others may need deeper cleaning. This is where oscillating machines come in handy.

 

For example, textured floors can pose a challenge when dirt becomes embedded in grooves and crevices. Textured flooring is a common choice in commercial environments due to its anti-slip properties. However, if not cleaned effectively, the embedded dirt can reduce slip resistance by making the floor smoother.

 

In such cases, an oscillating machine is the ideal choice. It’s gentle yet deep-cleaning action can effectively reach into the grooves and crevices, removing embedded dirt without damaging the floor’s texture. This helps maintain the anti-slip properties and overall cleanliness of textured flooring.

Can I use Ocelot’s to clean my floor?

Although the Ocelot 400 and Ocelot 400 Plus are designed for intense cleaning applications, they are compatible with a wide variety of hard floor materials. While some customers have used the Ocelot for cleaning carpets, we recommend using it primarily on hard floors for optimal performance. The cleaning pad used with the machine is the key factor in determining compatibility with your floor type.

What is the difference between Oscillating and Orbital cleaning? 

 

We’re beginning to see a variety of similar machines to the Ocelot arriving on the market and it can be confusing to recognise their differences and understand terminology. A key term often used is Orbital, this is different to oscillating but it can be confusing as companies sometimes use the term interchangeably. But here’s the difference: 

 

Orbital Machines: Move in a circular or elliptical pattern, providing consistent, even cleaning. They’re often used for polishing and maintaining smooth surfaces. 

 

Oscillating Machines: Move in a back-and-forth, multi-directional motion, making them ideal for deep cleaning textured surfaces and grout lines. Their movement is gentle yet effective at dislodging dirt from grooves and crevices.
