Alder Hey Children's Hospital - Cleaning Equipment Upgrade
Staff weren’t seeing visible results from their cleaning efforts, and certain areas were being missed or poorly maintained due to equipment limitations.
The hospital’s flooring consisted mainly of vinyl in corridors and rooms, and non-slip safety flooring in high-risk areas such as toilets, theatres, and ward-based service areas.
With the opportunity to refresh their equipment under a new budget, Alder Hey needed machines that were simple to use, ergonomically friendly, and genuinely effective.
We discovered that Alder Hey had a unique ward layout, including a high number of en-suite rooms and servery-kitchens with anti-slip flooring, numerous trolleys, hoists, and continuous activity from patients and staff.
The staff responded particularly well to the Victor SD12, a compact scrubber dryer. It impressed them immediately due to its manoeuvrability, balance, ease of use, and ability to clean effectively around tight spaces and obstacles.
Staff noted the machines significantly reduced physical strain, cleaned faster, and left floors visibly dry—preventing slip hazards and improving hygiene. A minor concern arose around the low drain point on the SD12. We responded quickly by supplying a low-profile drain pan, allowing easy emptying of dirty water without needing to leave the ward.
Our team ensured staff were confident using the equipment, addressed queries promptly, and provided operational guidance. When issues came up, we were on-site to resolve them, reinforcing our commitment to a true partnership rather than a one-off sale.
- Improved Cleaning Standards: Machines like the Victor SD12 accessed previously unreachable areas, eliminating built-up grime.
- Staff Satisfaction: Equipment was lightweight, simple to operate, and visibly effective—improving staff engagement and adoption.
- Efficiency Gains: Using the right equipment, such as the Victor Hyperglide for entrance matting, cleaning tasks were completed faster, and with greater consistency.
- Ongoing Support: Post-sale follow-up, training, and on-demand technical support ensured a smooth transition and long-term satisfaction.
They conducted side-by-side comparisons of equipment, drove the procurement process, and earned buy-in from both the Domestic Services Manager and the Head of Facilities.
Their proactive involvement showed how empowering end-users during the decision-making process can lead to smarter investments.
At the core of this project was our Discover, Simplify, Perform methodology. By taking the time to understand Alder Hey’s real-world needs, demonstrating fit-for-purpose solutions, and ensuring success through implementation and support, we delivered not just machines—but lasting value.
This case is a powerful example of how listening, adapting, and supporting healthcare environments can elevate operational standards and build long-term trust.
