Hot Water Extractors vs Steam Extractors

Comparing Hot Water vs Steam Extractors: Which is Right for Your Carpet Cleaning Needs?

Hot Water Extractors vs Steam Extractors

Hot Water Extractors vs Steam Extractors | When it comes to carpet cleaning, having the right equipment is crucial. Two popular choices for commercial and industrial carpet cleaning are hot water extractors and steam extractors. Each machine has its own unique benefits and is ideal for specific tasks. In this article, we’ll take a look at the differences between hot water and steam extractors, what tasks they excel at, and where they are best suited for use.

Hot Water Extractors

Hot water extractors are machines that use hot water and cleaning solution to deep clean carpets and upholstery. These machines are equipped with a pump that sprays the hot water and cleaning solution onto the surface being cleaned, and then a powerful vacuum extracts the water and dirt from the surface.

Hot water extractors are ideal for cleaning carpets that have heavy soil build up or stains. They are also great for cleaning carpets in high-traffic areas, such as office buildings or hotels. The high-temperature water and cleaning solution help to break down dirt and grime, while the powerful vacuum extracts the water and dirt from the carpet fibres.

Hot water extractors can also be used to clean upholstery and other fabric surfaces, such as curtains or drapes. They can be particularly effective for removing pet stains and odours.

Steam Extractors

Steam extractors are machines that use high-temperature steam to deep clean carpets and upholstery. These machines are equipped with a boiler that heats water to a high temperature, creating steam that is then sprayed onto the surface being cleaned. A powerful vacuum extracts the steam and dirt from the surface.

Steam extractors are ideal for sanitizing and cleaning carpets, upholstery, and other surfaces that are sensitive to water. The high-temperature steam can kill bacteria and germs, making it an ideal choice for cleaning medical facilities, schools, and other areas where cleanliness is a top priority.

Steam extractors are also great for cleaning carpets and upholstery that are prone to mould and mildew. The high-temperature steam can help to eliminate these growths, leaving surfaces clean and hygienic.

Benefits of Hot Water Extractors

Hot water extractors are highly effective at removing dirt and grime from carpets and upholstery. They are also great for removing stains and odours, making them an ideal choice for high-traffic areas and commercial settings.

Hot water extractors are also easy to operate, with simple controls that can be quickly learned by staff. They are also highly durable and built to withstand heavy use, making them a great investment for commercial and industrial cleaning operations.

1. More efficient at removing deep stains

Hot water extractors use hot water and cleaning solutions to penetrate deep into the fibres of carpets and upholstery, effectively breaking down and removing tough stains. This makes them more efficient at removing deep stains compared to steam extractors which rely mainly on steam for cleaning.

2. Faster drying time

Hot water extractors use a combination of hot water and suction to remove dirt and moisture from carpets and upholstery. This process is more efficient at removing moisture from carpets and upholstery, resulting in faster drying times compared to steam extractors.

3. Suitable for delicate fabrics

Hot water extractors are suitable for cleaning delicate fabrics such as wool, silk and other natural fibres. These fabrics can be easily damaged by high temperatures and steam, making hot water extractors a better option for these types of materials.

4.Better at removing allergens

Hot water extractors are effective at removing allergens such as dust mites, pollen and other allergens from carpets and upholstery. The hot water and cleaning solution penetrate deep into the fibres, removing allergens and leaving carpets and upholstery clean and fresh.

5.More cost-effective

Hot water extractors are generally more cost-effective than steam extractors, making them a great option for small businesses or those on a tight budget. They are also easier to maintain, with fewer parts to replace or repair compared to steam extractors.

Benefits of Steam Extractors

Steam extractors offer several unique benefits over hot water extractors. For one, they use high-temperature steam to sanitise surfaces, making them an ideal choice for medical facilities, schools, and other areas where cleanliness is a top priority.

Steam extractors are also highly effective at removing mould and mildew from carpets and upholstery. They can also be used to remove pet stains and odours, making them a great choice for homes and businesses with pets.

1. More effective at sanitising

Steam extractors use high temperature steam to sanitise surfaces and kill germs, bacteria, and viruses. This makes them a great option for environments that require high levels of cleanliness and hygiene, such as hospitals, schools, and food preparation areas.

2. More environmentally friendly

Steam extractors use only water and heat to clean and sanitise, making them an environmentally friendly option. They don’t require the use of harsh chemicals or cleaning agents, which can be harmful to the environment.

3. More versatile

Steam extractors can be used on a wide range of surfaces, including hard floors, carpets, upholstery, and even grout. They can be used to clean and sanitise a variety of items, such as kitchen appliances, mattresses, and toys.

4. Ideal for removing stubborn stains

Steam extractors use high temperature steam to break down and remove tough stains, such as grease, oil, and pet stains. The heat and pressure of the steam can penetrate deep into the fibres of carpets and upholstery, making them more effective at removing stubborn stains compared to hot water extractors.

5. No residue left behind

Steam extractors leave no residue behind, as they use only water and heat to clean and sanitise. This means that carpets and upholstery are left clean and fresh, without any chemical residue or odours.

Both hot water extractors vs steam extractors have their own unique benefits and are ideal for specific tasks. When deciding which machine is right for your cleaning needs, consider the type of surfaces you will be cleaning, the level of soil build-up, and the environment where the cleaning will take place.

Step-by-Step Guide to Using Rotary Floor Polisher | A Comprehensive Guide on How to Use a Rotary Floor Polisher Cleaning Machine

Step-by-Step Guide to Using Rotary Floor Polisher

Rotary floor machines are a popular choice for cleaning and polishing hard floors. They work by rotating a floor pad or brush, allowing them to effectively scrub and polish floors. If you have a rotary floor machine, such as the Victor Contractor or any other model or brand, this guide will show you how to use it safely and effectively.

Step 1: Understand the Purpose of a Rotary Floor Machine

Before using a rotary floor machine, it’s important to understand what it’s used for. Rotary floor machines are designed to clean and polish hard floors, such as tile, concrete, and hardwood. They can be used in a variety of settings, including homes, offices, and commercial spaces.

For more on the difference between a floor buffer and a floor burnisher, check out our post: Floor Polishing Machines: Understanding the Difference Between Buffers and Burnishers.

Step 2: Attach the Drive Board

The drive board is the large round disk to which a floor pad attaches. It has a prickly face (hook and loop system) that holds the pad in place.

  1. Insert the drive board into the drive pulley at the bottom of the machine.
  2. Make a half-turn anti-clockwise to secure it.

Tip: Store the drive board unattached when not in use to prevent warping and ensure pads are clean and dry.

Step 3: Choosing the Correct Floor Pad

When using a rotary floor cleaning machine, it’s important to choose the right type of floor pad for the job. There are different types of floor pads available, each designed for specific tasks. Here are some common types of floor pads:

  • White pads: These are the least aggressive and are used for light cleaning and buffing. They are ideal for use on delicate surfaces such as marble and polished concrete.
  • Red pads: These are slightly more aggressive than white pads and are used for spray cleaning. They are suitable for use on surfaces such as vinyl, linoleum, and terrazzo.
  • Blue pads: These are even more aggressive than red pads and are used for general cleaning tasks. They are suitable for use on surfaces such as concrete and ceramic tiles.
  • Green pads: These are more aggressive than blue pads and are used for deep scrubbing tasks.
  • Black pads: These are the most aggressive cleaning pads and are ideal for stripping tasks.
  • Melamine pads: These are used for deep cleaning and removing tough stains on hard surfaces such as tiles, grout, and concrete. They work by creating a mild abrasive action that scrubs away dirt and stains without the need for harsh chemicals.

If you need a more in depth guide on how to choose the correct floor pad for your floor, check out our post: Floor Pads 101: Choosing the Right Colour for Your Victor Scrubber Dryer or Rotary Cleaning Machine

Step 4: Use the Machine with Proper Posture

It’s important to use the handle in the correct position so that you’re using the machine properly.

Use the lever on the handle to drop the handle to the desired height. This should be just below the operative’s waist. Use the handle to lift the machine so it’s level.

The idea is to use the machine with your back straight, legs straight, and arms straight. Imagine you’re balancing a marble on the top of the machine because it needs to be completely level with the floor.

Step 5: Understand the Handle Section

The handle section of all Victor rotary floor machines has two safety switches at the very top, which prevent the machine from turning on accidentally. To operate the machine, you’ll need to be pulling one of these switches back into position. The main switch is located here as well.

This machine can be used left-handed or right-handed, depending on which side you’re more comfortable with. There’s also a loose handle underneath the machine, which is used for dispensing solution and chemical down if you have the additional tank fixed on this side.

On the other side, you’ll find the handle position lever, which is designed to release the handle on a ratchet so you can set it to the correct position for your height during operation. To use it, simply lift the lever up and pull the handle down to the desired position.

Step 6: Steering a Rotary Floor Machine

Once you have the rotary floor machine up and running, it’s important to know how to steer it properly. Steering the machine is done by raising or lowering the handle to control the direction of the machine’s movement.

To move the machine to the right, simply raise the handle up. This will cause the machine to tilt to the right and move in that direction. Conversely, to move the machine to the left, lower the handle down. This will cause the machine to tilt to the left and move accordingly.

A simple way to remember this is to use the mnemonic (R) for Raise / Right and (L) for Lower / Left. With a bit of practice, you’ll quickly get the hang of steering the machine and be able to move it smoothly in the direction you need it to go.

It’s important to remember to keep the machine level as you steer it to avoid any damage to the floor or the machine itself. And as always, be sure to follow all safety guidelines and instructions for using the machine to ensure a safe and effective cleaning experience.

Remember – When using a Rotary machine the wheels are designed for transport of the machine only and shouldn’t be touching the floor in operation.

Why choose a Scrubber Dryer?

Before we dive into how to choose the right Scrubber Dryer, let’s first consider why a Scrubber Dryer might be the right choice for your business. 1. Scrubber Dryers Save Time

Scrubber Dryers are designed to clean large areas quickly and efficiently. They are much faster than traditional mopping and can cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time.

2. Scrubber Dryers Improve Hygiene Standards

Scrubber Dryers use water and detergent to clean floors thoroughly, removing dirt and grime. This makes them ideal for environments that require high levels of cleanliness, such as hospitals, schools, and food processing plants.

3. Scrubber Dryers Can Reduce Water Usage

Unlike traditional mopping, Scrubber Dryers use a minimal amount of water to clean floors. This makes them a more environmentally friendly option, as well as helping to reduce water bills.

Scrubber Dryers are designed to reduce the risk of slips and falls by leaving floors dry and non-slippery. This is particularly important in environments where safety is a priority, such as factories and warehouses.

5. Scrubber Dryers Can Be Cost-effective

Scrubber Dryers are a cost-effective option for businesses that need to clean large areas regularly. They can save time and money compared to traditional mopping methods.

The SD50, on the other hand, has a wider cleaning width of 711mm and a larger tank size of 50 Litres, making it suitable for larger areas.

For even larger spaces, the SDR80 is a ride-on Scrubber Dryer that offers a cleaning width of 812mm and a tank size of 80 litres. This machine is ideal for warehouses, factories, and other large spaces that require heavy-duty cleaning.

Floor Buffer vs Burnisher

Floor Buffer vs Burnisher: The Difference Between Floor Polishers |  When to Use Them and Which Machine to Choose

There’s nothing quite like a beautiful, high shine floor.

Floor Buffer vs Burnisher |  Well-maintained floors are the hallmark of a hygienic and sanitary space, especially the dazzling “wet look” that is desired nowadays from marble flooring.

However, when it comes to maintaining hard floors, like concrete, granite, marble and others, people are usually confused about which equipment they should use for the floor’s upkeep.

What machine do you need? A floor buffer or a burnisher?

To an untrained eye, these floor polishing machines may look incredibly similar, but they happen to be vastly different. In this article, we’ll take a look at the difference between floor cleaning machines and understand which equipment you will require and for what task.

What Is a Floor Buffer and When Is It Used?

A floor buffer, also known as a floor polisher, floor rotary machine, or swing machine, serves a vital role in janitorial maintenance. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Function: A floor buffer removes wax from hard flooring surfaces.
  • Additional Uses:
    • Cleaning Floors and Carpets: Attachments allow it to clean both floors and carpets effectively.
    • Scrubbing Floors: Ideal for deep cleaning and removing stubborn stains.
    • Scuff Mark Removal: Gets rid of scuff marks, restoring floor shine.

The floor buffer typically moves in a side-to-side motion, earning its nickname as a “swing machine.”

Remember, this versatile equipment plays a crucial role in maintaining spotless floors!

What is a Burnisher and when is it used?

Burnishers on the other hand are a piece of high-speed equipment that polishes hard floors. They create the “wet shine” look on the floor with the help of friction.

After a floor has been buffed, it can then be polished or burnished. This is the order in which the equipment is usually used.

During the process of burnishing, a small amount of fine dust is produced, hence one should choose a dust control model to ensure that no dust residue is formed.

Both these pieces of equipment may look the same, but they are used for very different purposes. Hence, you should be aware of when you need a burnisher and when you require a buffer.

Floor Pads: The Ultimate Guide to Choosing the Right Colour

https://youtu.be/ongGeqLoCrw

What colour floor pads should you use?

Get the best out of your Victor Scrubber Dryers or Victor Rotary Cleaning Machine by using the right colour floor pad.

Did you know that you can seriously damage a floor by using the wrong colour floor pad?

To make sure you and your team know the correct colour floor pad to use with the correct machine, for the correct job, we’ve put together the following guide.

Floor pads are ideal for relatively level floors. If you have uneven floors, a brush may be more suitable.

As a general rule of thumb, the lighter the colour, the less abrasive a floor pad will be. For example White pads are very soft and ideal for polishing floors, whereas Black pads are much more abrasive and generally used for stripping or deep scrubbing tasks.

White Polishing Floor Pads

White Polishing Floor Pads

The White Victor Floor pad is the softest of the floorpads that we supply, this means it’s very delicate on floors. Designed for Burnishing and

polishing clean, dry floors, the Victor white polishing floor pad is perfect for producing a high gloss finish to floors.

Use dry or with a fine water mist to produce a high gloss finish.

The Victor white polishing pad is made from 100% recycled polyester fibres and

water-based resins.

For use with all Victor electric rotary machines, orbital scrubbers and automatic

Scrubbers.

We recommend using a white pad a high speeds between 300 – 2000 RPM

Red Buffing Floor Pads

Red Buffing Floor Pads

The Red Victor floor pad is slightly more abrasive than the white pad but less abrasive than the blue floor pad. The Red floor pad is a

great all rounded and ideal for spray cleaning tasks.

Because it is still fairly delicate on floors. Suitable for regular light cleaning and polishing, the red floor pad will remove light scuff marks and dirt while producing a high gloss shine.

The red Victor buffing pad is made of 100% recycled polyester fibres and waterbased

resins.

The red pad is ideal for rotary machines, but also often recommended for use by flooring manufacturers on a Scrubber Dryer as there is no risk of it damaging the floor or coating.

The red pad is ideal for use with slow or high speed floor cleaning machines between 100 – 2000 rpm

Blue Cleaning Floor Pads

Blue Cleaning Floor Pads

The Blue Victor Floor Pad is slightly more abrasive than a Red floor pad but not as abrasive as a green floor pad.

The Blue floor pad is very useful to have stock of, particular in areas which are prone to heavier scuff marks. 4. Check the Water Tank

Check the water tank before each use andmake sure it’s topped up with clean water. This will ensure your machine is working at maximum efficiency and prevent any damage to the water pump. If the machine is only used periodically, the clean water / solution tank should be kept empty to minimise damage to the machine and prevent water becoming stagnant.

Inspect the brushes on your Scrubber Dryer regularly to make sure they are clean and free from any damage. If the brushes become worn or damaged, they will need to be replaced.

6. Check the Squeegee Blades

Check the squeegee blades on your machine regularly to ensure they are not worn or damaged. If the squeegee blades are damaged, they will not be able to pick up the water effectively and can cause streaking.

7. Lubricate Moving Parts

Lubricate the moving parts on your Scrubber Dryer regularly to prevent any friction and wear. Use a silicone-based lubricant and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

8. Check the Battery

If your Scrubber Dryer has a battery, make sure you check the battery level regularly. Most modern machines will have a battery indicator to show the remaining charge.

9. Check the Filters

Check the filters on your Scrubber Dryer regularly to make sure they are clean and free from any debris. Dirty filters can reduce the efficiency of your machine and cause damage to the motor.

10. Schedule Regular Servicing

It’s important to schedule regular servicing for your Scrubber Dryer. A professional service will ensure your machine is working at its best and identify any potential issues before they become major problems.
