The V-9 Tub vacuum has been a firm favourite with schools, local authorities, hotels and other commercial environments since its inception in the late 90’s. But in case you aren’t familiar with all the benefits that the V9 has to offer, we thought we’d outline them in a short blog post.

So here they are, 13 reasons why the Victor V9 could possibly be the best commercial vacuum cleaner for you.

1. No loss of suction (Even when the bag is full)

The Victor V9 Tub vacuum features a rigid HEPA filter that prevents the bag from blocking the motor. This means that even when the bag is full there is enough airflow to ensure no loss of suction.

Similar tub vacuums have a loose filter which tends to block the motor as they inflate, reducing the airflow and reducing the suction, long before the bag is full.

2. HEPA Filtration Rate 99.99%

HEPA filters use multiple interlaced fibres to create a ‘maze’ that traps particles, preventing them from being recirculated into the air.

The V9’s unique rigid filter sits between the bag and the motor and creates a certified HEPA filtration rate of 99.9984%. This means the V9’s filter traps almost every single particle of dust, bacteria and mould, making it very popular in the healthcare sector. Without this level of filtration, other vacuum cleaners would simply recirculate these particles back into the air.

For more info, see our blog post: Can a HEPA Filter Protect Against Covid-19?

3. Low Cost Paper bags (the filter does all the work)

Due to the incredibly high filtration rate of the rigid filter and the sealed tub, the V9 doesn’t require expensive HEPA Bags. A simple, low cost paper bag is all that is required, making the Victor V9 incredibly cost-effective to run.

4. Super light weight (20% lighter than the industry standard)

The Victor V9 weighs just 6kg, which is around 1.5Kg or 20% lighter than the industry standard. This makes the Victor V9 incredibly easy to carry around without causing the operative strain. Combined with the long cable and handle, the V9 is ideal for vacuuming stairs as the operative can carry the tub, whilst working the treads with the floortool.

5. High Visibility

The V9 tub vacuum has been manufactured using a High Visibility ABS plastic and features a high visibility yellow cable. This reduces the risk of being a trip hazard when compared to duller primary colour tubs or black cables.

6. Powerful Ametek Motor

The high quality, powerful 600w Ametek motor delivers high power suction and lasting performance, whilst remaining extra quiet only creating 60 decibels of sound.

7. Made in the UK

We are proud to have been manufacturing mighty commercial cleaning equipment in Birmingham, England for over 75 years. Manufacturing in the UK not only helps to reduce our carbon footprint, support the local economy but helps to protect our supply chain. If you’re finding your current supplier delaying orders due to stock being stuck at customs or on a boat somewhere, perhaps buying British could be a better long term strategy. For more info, see our blog post: “Why your business should start buying British”

8. Short lead times

We hold a large stock quantity of the V9 to ensure we can fulfil even the largest orders for next day delivery where requested. Given the current unprecedented times, some of our customers have been struggling to get hold of some commercial cleaning equipment from some supplies. We source the majority of our components as locally as possible and manufacture them in the UK. This allows us to avoid some supply chain issues other suppliers may be facing.

9. High impact resistant tub

The high capacity 9L tub has been manufactured from high impact ABS plastic. This ensures it won’t crack or shatter – even with continuous use in demanding commercial environments.

10. Five castors for extra manoeuvrability (it won’t topple over)

Tub vacuum cleaners are notorious for toppling over. Users tend to pull them around by their cable, and inevitably tend to end upside down. This in turn causes the user to stop what they are doing to correct the vacuum.

To solve this problem, we designed the V9 to have 5 castor wheels rather than the industry standard 4 wheels. This gives it 360-degree manoeuvrability, opposed to the standard forward, backward, left, right. Following rigorous testing, we’ve found the five castor design significantly reduces the probability the Victor V9 will topple over during use.

11. Easy wrap cable

If you’ve ever had a vacuum cleaner with a retractable cable you’ll know how problematic that can be. They get jammed very easily, and once broken the cable becomes very difficult to store.

The V9’s 5 castor design allows the V9 to spin 360, creating its own unique, zero maintenance cable winder. Simply remove the hose and spin the V9 on its 5 castors whilst guiding the cable around the specifically moulded motor cover. When fully wound, simply clip the plug into the handle.

12. Quick Change Cable

It happens, with continuous use power cables can get damaged. Usually, tub vacuums would have to be sent off to a specialist for repair. To ensure minimal equipment downtime, the V9 features a plug and play power cable which can be replaced in seconds. Similar to a kettle lead the power cord pops out for replacement. But don’t worry, the cable restraint ensures that the cable can’t be pulled out during use, even if the operative pulls the vacuum around by the cable.

13. Built to last – 3 year Warranty

And finally, the V9 has been built to last to a commercial grade. We are so confident that the V9 will stand the test of time, even in a demanding commercial environment, that we offer a 3 year warranty as standard.

Whether you voted for it or not, Brexit is here, and we are already beginning to see the effects. As of 1st January 2021, the United Kingdom is longer part of the European Union. We will feel the ramifications for generations, good and bad. British businesses at large are grateful the government prevented the UK crashing out of Europe without a deal. Yet, even with an agreement, the long term outlook for UK trade is uncertain. But, Brexit does offer some new opportunities.

As the clock struck midnight on 31st December 2020, problems at the border began. Every media outlet has reported long delays and mountains of paperwork. Companies based in the EU are now charging consumers import taxes and VAT. Previously, British businesses had few problems buying goods from European companies as part of the EU VAT area. Across many industries, particularly specialists, British companies are facing big import charges.

Even with a deal, the long term outlook for UK trade is uncertain. Cross border supply chains, in particular, are slow and expensive in some cases, and broken in others. No longer tied to EU regulations in the same way, it may now also be easier for many industries to source materials in the UK.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding trading with the EU, Brexit will afford British businesses and consumers a fantastic opportunity to look locally for new trading partners.

While the EU will always be an important trade partner, we strongly believe it’s now time to look to local businesses to steady the ship. If your supply chain is fractured due to Brexit, negotiating new deals with local suppliers could well be the best way forward for a multitude of reasons.

Better customer service

As anyone who has bought any equipment from outside the UK knows, having it repaired or replaced can be a logistical nightmare. First, you need to get the equipment back through customs, which can cost YOU money.

Waiting weeks for the return of essential equipment is infuriating. Since Brexit, the wait times for getting equipment through has grown from weeks to months. Much of IKEAs flatpack furniture remains stuck in the EU, and they have struggled to meet demand. Many customers have received only half of their orders, creating a customer service nightmare.

Choosing to buy from a British manufacturer means shorter wait times to have equipment repaired or replaced. Often, British businesses are capable of next-day delivery with no extra charges. Eventually, the EU will resolve its problems at the border, however, the higher costs are unlikely to go away.

Additionally, as the UK is no longer part of the EU VAT area, many consumer and business purchases will include extra costs and sales tax.

Buying British is sustainable

Climate change, sustainability and reduced carbon footprint are all causes for concern and will be for decades to come. Governments across the globe are mandating increased accountability for companies who are heavily contributing to global warming. Additionally, the UK government offers tax relief for companies that can show that they operate in an environmentally efficient way. Many other countries are doing the same.

One of the simplest ways for any British business to be more sustainable and lower their carbon footprint is by reducing the number of products they regularly order from abroad.

While buying British may only save a few hundred miles of driving a week for a small business, over a decade, or a business’s lifetime, this adds up to an enormous amount of miles saved.

Given the disastrous outcome of ignoring climate change, every British business has a responsibility to do their part in helping to meet the UK government’s target of being a carbon neutral country by 2050.

A survey by Global Data in 2019 showed that younger generations are more actively searching for sustainable products. The survey showed that 82% of people between the ages of 16-24 agree that retailers should source materials ethically and sustainably. As the world warms up, businesses will be looking for more sustainably sourced goods to ensure their brand reputation is not tarnished by being known as a polluter. Consumers choosing sustainable, or green goods due to ethical concerns could soon become a cultural norm.

There are many benefits businesses can reap from going green. These range from subsidies to increased popularity and demand for goods and services. Eco-friendly business practices can help improve your business image into a company that is looking to the future.

Buying local boosts the British economy

An additional effect of British companies increasing their domestic trade is that they support the local workforce, which puts more money into the British economy. If these other businesses also choose to increase their trade within Britain, this will further boost the British economy. This snowballing effect is part of an economic principle called the velocity of money, which describes how fast consumers and businesses spend money in an economy. Essentially, it measures how quickly groups and individuals spend money on goods and services. A high velocity of money means the economy is thriving and expanding; a low velocity of money means contraction.

Buying local can also alert companies to a gap in the market. For example, British car manufacturers might have no British businesses to purchase batteries from for their new electric car range. This market gap could motivate the car manufacturer, or another business, to fill it themselves. These new organisations would, in turn, create jobs and stimulate the British economy further.

Buying British also helps keep skills and traditions alive. Take furniture making, for example. Choosing to buy furniture for your company office from a British manufacturer helps keep skills passed from generation to generation alive. It also stimulates the local economy by keeping or creating local jobs. Additionally, buying your food from a local producer helps keep local growers and farmers in business. In some cases, these local brands can become global players, like Dr Martens, which is currently planning a £3bn flotation on the London stock exchange.

There are also some ethical concerns about importing from the rest of the world. While worker standards within the EU, the UK, and the USA are high, every country cannot say the same. By choosing to buy products from local sellers, you know workers have been paid a fair wage and work in a safe environment. The manufacturing industry within the UK is subject to stringent regulation; worker safety is a top priority.

Value of the pound

The present value of the pound further strengthens the case for buying British. While GBP is currently weak against the Euro, exporters can take advantage because British goods are cheaper and therefore more desirable for European businesses. However, this is bad news for importers, as goods from the EU are more expensive than previously. The best option, once again, is to look locally for suppliers. Buying British will prevent your business from being overcharged for consumables and other products from Europe and the rest of the world.

For some British businesses, buying a significant amount of materials or consumables from within the UK is not viable. However, most companies are able to search locally for at least some of their supplies to keep their businesses running.

The case for buying British is clear. Sourcing your goods from within the UK allows your business to be more sustainable and profitable while receiving a higher standard of customer service and faster delivery times.

As the nation looks for new ways to protect themselves from viruses such as Coronavirus, some scientists have suggested that HEPA filters could be the answer for filtering airborne particles and reduce the spread of COVID-19 and other viruses.

Research on the COVID-19 virus has yielded some comprehensive information about what causes COVID and how effective it can be through airborne transmission. In the air cleaning industry, a rather large question has been posed: Are HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter vacuums, portable air purifiers, and air cleaners alike effective against COVID? This article will provide a brief overview of what experts have said about the efficacy of such vacuums and filters.

Can HEPA Filters and Purifiers Protect You from COVID-19?

To get right to the point for those looking for a quick answer: YES – a HEPA filter vacuums can HELP protect you from the coronavirus.

It’s important to note that it does not offer full protection simply because it is being used. The Environmental Protection Agency makes this statement in their assessment of filter effectiveness:

“By themselves, portable air cleaners and HVAC filters are not enough to protect people from the virus that causes COVID-19.”

The report goes on to say that given other proper sanitation practices suggested by the CDC are being followed, the use of a HEPA filtered vacuum can substantially decrease the chances of being infected. Additionally, this assessment says that HEPA, CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) systems, or manufacturers that define particulate removal below 1um should be considered when choosing an air cleaner.

The Victor V-9 HEPA Filter Vacuum cleaner a high filtration rate of 99.9984%. This means it catches and traps 99.9984% or dust and other airborne particles. Vacuum cleaners without a HEPA Filter or Bag are notorious for letting particles escape, putting potentially harmful or infected particals back into the air.

Although a HEPA Vacuum cleaner by itself may not fully remove the risk of COVID, combined with conitous handwashing and a thorough sanitising routine, it can help reduce risk of infection significantly.

What is a HEPA Filter?

With the more important question at hand out the of way, it would probably be best to cover exactly what a HEPA Filter is.

A HEPA filter is a high quality air filter that meets the HEPA filter standard. To be classed as a HEPA Filter, it must remove at least 99.97% of particles from the air down to at least 0.3 microns in size.

HEPA filters are a common filter in air purifiers and Vacuum cleaners due to their necessity to remove dust and airborne impurities from the air.

How Do HEPA filters Work?

Hepa filters utilise multiple interlaced fibres which weave together to trap dust and other harmful particles such as pollen, pet dander and dust mites.

The Victor V9 HEPA Tub Vacuum

  • 99.9984% HEPA filtration.
  • Fixed HEPA filter = No loss of suction.
  • No need for expensive HEPA Bags.
  • Super lightweight at just 6kg.
  • Powerful 700W motor.

With one of the most advanced HEPA filtration systems, this tub vacuum is lightweight and easy to use whilst also being powerful and robust.

The V-9 thrives in commercial environments where a high-performance motor, heavy-duty housing, and advanced HEPA filtration is required.

How is the Victor V9 Different to other commercial HEPA Tub Vacuum Cleaners?

Rather than using HEPA Filter bags which can be costly to replace and lower in particle retention, the Victor V-9 features a fixed HEPA filter. This stays in place, even when the bag is full, ensuring the motor isn’t blocked causing loss of suction.

Due to covid-19, many companies have had to revisit current policies and seek new strategies that allow them to continue working safely, whilst maintaining the safety of their customers. Many local authorities and businesses have turned to a process called fogging to ensure the safety and protection of their patrons.

Although fogging or misting has been a process used for some time to treat mould and fungi, it’s popularity in sanitising large public spaces has increased since the pandemic’s arrival.

Google Trends data showing search volume for ‘Fogging machine’ over the past 5 years. Popularity is beginning to spike since April 2020.

What is a fogging machine or chemical fogging?

The fogging process creates a fine mist which can be used as an effective method for distributing disinfectant over large areas.

The mist created by the fogging device contains biocide particles, which can stay in the air longer to kill viruses and bacteria , making it very effective at reducing air‐borne contaminants. Fogging can also be used to kill pathogens on furniture, door handles, floors, ceilings, walls and other touchpoints or surfaces.

The fogging process can reach places that are difficult to clean or disinfect with other methods. The sanitising mist can reach high ledges, equipment tops, into crevices and corners that are usually limited to other cleaning methods. A core advantage is that you will not need to move furniture or objects during the disinfection process, nor use ladders to get up high.

Thanks to its fine, quick-drying mist, fogging is safe to use on practically all surfaces including glass, metal, fabric and plastic.

Fogging / Misting and its effectiveness in killing the new coronavirus

Coronavirus has changed the lives of the whole world, and to avoid its spread, hygiene and distancing measures must be followed. As time passes and the world approaches a new normal, government organisations look for effective safety practices to ensure the safety of the public.

The safety, cleaning, and protection plans of all workers within all industries must be reviewed to prevent the virus’s spread. Consistent sterilisation of public spaces is imperative for post-pandemic recovery.

Fogging is rapidly becoming more widely adopted as part of a regular sterilisation routine. However, fogging is only as effective as the solution applied. Fogging with water alone will have no effect on neutralising the area. In the UK, we recommend only using fogging solutions which have been independently tested to conform to BS EN standards and have the required virucidal activity.

Any sanitising solution that is going to be used for fogging purposes, needs to meet the requirements of EN 14476 and should have been performed with vaccinia virus for enveloped viruses. The other viruses in this test method are Polio, Adenovirus and Murine norovirus. If all three viruses have been tested and a pass achieved, then the product is virucidal and will be a far more effective product with a broader spectrum.

When combined with a commercial grade fogging machine, this method of surface disinfection is highly effective and safe for disinfecting schools, restaurants, public spaces, aeroplanes, businesses, hospitality, shops, and many more.

When fogging we highly recommend using Victor Sanitiser Mist Solution. This ready to use fogging solution has been formulated to provide a broad spectrum activity against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, yeasts, fungi and enveloped viruses. In addition to this, it meets the requirements of EN1276, EN1650, EN13697 and EN14476.

Fogging and its effectiveness against coronavirus and germs

With the pandemic’s arrival, the whole world is battling a bacteriological war. Now people are more aware of these problems and seek to better clean all surfaces.

Fogging or chemical fogging has been around for many years to disinfect public or private areas and spaces. It was considered a specialised and inexpensive alternative cleaning method used in hospitals, restaurants, clean rooms, etc.

The pandemic has made everyone more aware of the risks that are everywhere. That is, touching a surface and touching your face can bring many diseases or viruses to your body. Fogging processes, although was once more commonly used to sanitise hospitals, have now moved to be more commonplace in office spaces, canteens, kitchens, classrooms, corridors, stairwells, surgeries and waiting rooms. They are increasingly common in shopping centres and restaurants to prevent the new coronavirus spread. Employers are in charge of avoiding this type of contagion between their employees and their clients, so it is so important that they have a qualified cleaning regime.

After months of the appearance of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, people already know that they have to have better hygiene and that the virus can survive on surfaces. Experts have stated that the virus can continue on hard plastic or metal surfaces for up to 48 hours, depending on the temperature.

This virus can be inactivated correctly and effectively if people use a suitable and qualified sanitisation system. For this reason, many companies have taken the initiative to use a fogging process to reduce the transmission of the virus.

Schools, airports, universities, train stations, and local authorities must be responsible and take care of users, students, and employees. All facilities must be disinfected so that others can touch them without problem and risk of contagion.

How to Choose a Fogging Machine for Covid-19

There is a lot of choices when it comes to fogging machines. Thanks to an increase in demand for the process, the market has been flooded with various options.

One of the most important factors to consider is the mist droplet size or the Micron size. If the droplets are too large, the mist won’t be fine enough to dry quickly, and gaps within the mist won’t create even or total coverage.

The Mist Pro 360 has a very small droplet size (15-30 microns) which is dispersed in a turbulent motion. This extra fine mist ensures total coverage.

If you need a fogging machine for a commercial setting, be sure to commit to a fogger which has a robust, commercial build. It’s likely the fogging machine will be in use for several hours per day, so you’ll need a solution which stands the test of time.

There are 2 main types of Fogging machine tanks – Fogging machines where the operator holds the entire unit or foggers where the operator holds the lance and the tank remains on the floor.

Holding the entire unit including even a 3ltr tank can cause fatigue rapidly in the operator. When we were designing the Mist Pro 360, we wanted to make it as easy to use, lightweight and as robust as possible. This is why the large 7ltr tank remains on the floor, and the operator only holds the lance whilst misting.

Is the fogging or misting process safe?

Providing an adequate risk assessment is in place, and a suitable sanitising solution is used in the fogging device, fogging is a safe and effective sanitising procedure.

Even if the sanitising solution has been classed as safe and non-toxic, it should always be applied in areas that are clear of people to avoid allergic reactions. Spray fogging is ideally suited to the outside of working hours to guarantee safety. You should make sure to use an antimicrobial that is water-based so that it is harmless to the environment, not dangerous, and not corrosive.

Adequate PPE should be worn at all times when operating a fogging machine. Suggested personal protective equipment to be worn when fogging includes, Overalls, facemask, protective eyewear and gloves.

How efficient is fogging?

Fogging sterilises areas by coating surfaces with a fine microbial layer. By using a qualified and efficient product, it can be effective longer. By applying disinfectant finely, less can be used to achieve the same desired effects as manual application. This makes fogging a very cost-effective method for sterilising almost any facility.

Are there any drawbacks to using fogging?

Although it is a very effective sanitising system, it is not 100% miraculous. Fogging is not designed to replace an effective cleaning schedule, but instead designed to disinfect and sanitise an already clean surface.

Before the fogging, a deep cleaning process should be carried out to ensure the safety of the area. If there is still dust, dirt, or wet parts, the mist will not contact the surface, and it will not have total disinfection.

Strengthening Business Operations for Sustainable Production and Customer Satisfaction

In the face of unprecedented challenges, businesses are struggling to keep up with customer demands and fulfil their promises. Here at Victor Floorcare we have taken the initiative to conduct a systematic review of all aspects of its business operations to get back to a position where it can sustainably fulfil customer orders. This post will discuss the steps that we as a company have taken to improve production, operations, order processing, finance, and sales and the impact these changes have had.

Production

At the heart of any manufacturing business lies production. Without a sustainable production process, businesses cannot survive, let alone thrive. We recognise the importance of improving production process to meet growing customer demands. We have undertaken a thorough review of our production process and identified areas where it can make improvements in both the short and long term.

One of the key challenges we have faced is the availability of raw materials. We heavily rely on suppliers to provide the raw materials needed to produce our products. However, the pandemic had disrupted supply chains, making it difficult for us to access some raw materials and components needed. To address this challenge, we have focussed on building relations with our key suppliers and worked with them to ensure that they could provide the raw materials needed to sustain production. Where possible we use local suppliers with enhances our supply chain and reduces both lead times and our carbon footprint.

Victor’s products are essential for cleaning Ambulance stations, hospitals, MOD sites, and other establishments involved with front line cleaning and hygiene. We recognised the critical role played by its suppliers in supporting its production process and were grateful for their support during this challenging time.

Operations

We recognised that improving our production process was not enough to meet customer demands sustainably. It needed to streamline its operations to ensure that it could deliver products to customers promptly. We undertook a review of all of our operations and identified areas where we could make improvements.

One of the key improvements we made was the implementation of the SAP ERP system. The system helped us gain visibility of raw materials, parts, and components inventory, which streamlined the entire operation. The system provided real-time information that has helped us track our production process and identify areas where we can make improvements.

Order Processing

We recognise that order processing is a critical part of fulfilling customer orders quickly and efficiently in order ensure that we can process orders promptly to meet customer demands. we have undertaken a review of our order processing system and identified areas where improvements could be made.

One of the key improvements which we have made is to ensure that we have adequate staffing levels to process orders promptly. We have also worked with our distributors to develop and improve the service and support they receive to help them increase sales of Victor products.

Victor have been delivering exceptional cleaning machines for over 75 years, and through the implementation of a systematic review of our business operations, we are well-positioned to continue doing so for another 75 years. Our commitment to improving iour production process, strengthening relationships with suppliers and distributors, and leveraging technology to streamline our operations will undoubtedly enhance customer satisfaction and propel Victor forward as a leader in the industry.

With a focus on sustainability and innovation, Victor is poised for continued success in the years to come.

On 6th March, Victor came under new ownership, and despite the current challenges, we are looking forward to a bright and exciting future.

The new owners bring with them a highly innovative approach, with extensive experience of product design and development in the field of cleaning and janitorial products. We look forward to building on our existing customer partnerships, strengthening our manufacturing and production capabilities and developing new business opportunities within the market.

In the 4 short weeks so far, extensive work has already been done to improve our internal systems, restart manufacturing and protect and grow the Victor team.

It is a key strategy moving forwards to retain the qualities that the Victor brand stands for – British manufacturing, reliable machines, market-led innovations. Our primary aim now is to restore and increase manufacturing capacity and develop a portfolio of floorcare machines that reflects what our customers need, providing a solution where one doesn’t exist.

We look forward to giving more updates on the progress of Victor and giving an insight into the exciting developments in the pipeline.

Standing the test of timeHere is an image of a Contractor 400 that a customer is looking for a spare part for. As you can see it’s been well used… After checking the serial number, we can see that the customer purchased this product in 2001(19 years ago!).

Great to see our machines clearly stand the test of time!
